Jeddah: In a significant move, Saudi Arabia has announced that individuals holding various types of visas will now be able to undertake Umrah, the minor pilgrimage, with ease. The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah stated, "Arrivals from anywhere and with any visa can perform Umrah with ease and comfort" in an official post.

The ministry emphasized that Umrah rituals are now accessible to holders of all types of visas, including personal, family, transit, labor, and e-visas. "Whatever the type of your visa, you can do Umrah," the statement highlighted.

To facilitate the process, pilgrims are encouraged to utilize the Nusuk app, which allows them to obtain an Umrah permit and adhere to designated timings for the rituals at the Grand Mosque in Mecca, the holiest site in Islam. The Nusuk platform also assists Muslims in making accommodation arrangements for their Umrah journey and visit to Medina, the second holiest site in Islam.

This recent announcement follows a series of initiatives introduced by Saudi Arabia to make it easier for overseas Muslims to perform Umrah. These efforts aim to accommodate millions of Muslims worldwide who undertake Umrah, particularly those who may face physical or financial constraints preventing them from participating in the annual Hajj pilgrimage.

Recent enhancements include extending the Umrah visa duration from 30 to 90 days, allowing entry via all land, air, and sea ports, and removing the requirement for women pilgrims to be accompanied by male guardians. Furthermore, expatriates in Gulf Cooperation Council countries and holders of Schengen, US, and UK visas can now book Umrah appointments through the Nusuk app prior to their arrival in Saudi Arabia.

Saudi Arabia's decision to open Umrah to individuals with various types of visas reflects its commitment to facilitating and promoting religious tourism. This inclusive approach is expected to attract a greater number of pilgrims and provide them with opportunities to fulfill their spiritual obligations conveniently and comfortably.
